Internal Communications; CARE USA

In the Spring of 2019 I had the opportunity to intern with CARE USA as an Internal Communication Intern. As an intern in this department, I observed how the department served as a reference point for many other departments. This internship allowed me to explore the different efforts that CARE makes across the world, and how they empower young girls and women.

When I look back at this experience, although it doesn’t exactly align with what I would like to do in the future, it increased my skills in written and verbal communication, social media posting, as well as creating infographics. I learned how to use Microsoft SharePoint to create intranet SharePoint sites to introduce company-wide initiatives. Creating graphics  to encourage organization-wide attendance for Global Town Halls also increased my knowledge in using Canva and Adobe Spark.

Being at CARE in the Spring was interesting because it was a time of transition for their company brand. They were in the process of creating different branding standards to implement across all of their campaigns and materials. At the same time, our Internal Communications team also made a shift to using Banana Tag software to send out mass emails. I was apart of creating Banana Tag templates for different departments to use, as well as leading communications and trainings on how to use this new platform.

Additionally, I learned much more about non-profit business acumen, and how non-profits run as an organization. This internship experience allowed me to interact in a professional setting, and allowed me the experience of attending business meetings where I learned more about the organizations strategic management, Human Resources, and budgeting.

I will always remember CARE USA as being a great second internship, with the opportunity to work with people who had difference backgrounds and experiences.
