Peak Week; Labor Trafficking Project Proposal

As part of an Agnes Scott initiative, the Team Global Challenge (Case Competition), a group of 4 students and I participated in a week-long project proposal to address and identify a solution to the issue of migrant workers in rural GA being exploited through Labor Trafficking. We developed a two-part project proposal targeted towards educating the local community members of the signs and symptoms of Labor Trafficking, and also created a product prototype of a Pac-Kit (Book Bag) which would be distributed to H2-A visa recipients (agriculture industry employees). Alongside necessary items such as Snacks, Soap, Razors/ Shaving Cream, two of the items in our Pac-Kit would have discrete stickers on them that would provide the questions regarding symptoms of being trafficked as well as the Trafficking Hotline number. These stickers were thought of to be placed on the back of a Saint Card as the majority of migrant workers in GA are Catholic and on the inside flap of reusable hand-wipes containers. Both of these products are less likely to be thrown away, but also a discrete way to provide information. We also created the product prototype at Decatur Makers that is displayed in the presentation slides. This project allowed me to work with students of other disciplines such as Math, Sociology, Film, International Relations, and Anthropology to create a comprehensive project.
